Time to post a little update on things I've been up to in the past few weeks.
I was sick for a week or so, right after my one year Dr. appt. Mommy thinks it is something that I picked up in Dr. P's office, as it was very busy that day and there were some sick kids there. On Thursday morning (the 9th) I came down with a fever (my first ever) of about 101F. Mommy gave me tylenol and that helped, but the fever kept coming back after it wore off. I didn't feel much like playing or eating. The fever lasted for 4 days, then I started coughing, sounding congested and waking at night because of it. Since I hadn't been eating well in a few days, Mommy decided to take me back to the Dr. just to make sure I didn't have an ear infection or pneumonia. All was normal, and Dr. P. said that I had a virus that's going around. I probably had nausea that was causing me to not want to eat, and it would take about a week to run it's course. I am feeling fine now, and my appetite is almost back to normal.
I am getting better at doing my signs. I now sign "milk" consistently. Mommy & Daddy like it because now I can tell them when I want a drink of milk, instead of just screaming and them having to figure out what I want (although sometimes I still do that, just for fun). I have also learned the sign for "more" and am starting to do that more often. Mommy noticed that I seem to have associated it to mean "food" so she is going to work on using the sign when I am doing other activities that don't involve food, so I'll learn to use it appropriately.
I really love my books. I often sit and take my books out of their basket or off the shelf and flip through them. When I want Mommy or Daddy to read me one, I just biff it at them. Once I hit Daddy in the face! I also throw my sippy cup at them when I want a drink of milk. They're hoping that I soon come up with a less violent way of telling them what I want!
I have been able to point things out in books when mommy asks me to for a while now, but today I actually anticipated what was on the next page of the book before mommy turned the page! There was a picture of a snake on the next page and I said "sssss" That's the sound that mommy says a snake makes and I think it's pretty funny!
Mommy thinks I might be finally trying to say some words. for the past week I've been saying "A Da!" and pointing at things. Mommy wonders if I'm trying to say "What's that?"
I'm trying really hard to walk now too. I frequently stand for a few seconds without support now, and I can walk really well while someone is holding just one of my hands. I am just holding on for balance while cruising now, rather than for support. I'm still too cautious to try that first step though - I make a tentative movement forward with one foot, but then I change my mind and drop to my knees and crawl.
I'm getting pretty good at climbing too. I climb all over my fisher price Garage, and I can climb down from the couch, bed, rocker, etc. I can also almost climb up onto the couch by myself - I just need something to stand on - it is a couple of inches too high for me to get up there directly from the floor. Once I get up there, I like to stand against the back of the couch and jump up and down!
That's about all my news for now. Stay tuned for future updates and for February and March pictures that Mommy will be posting soon.
