Frozen ham and other miscellany at age 2
So one of the things Christian likes is to have his food frozen. It certainly makes food preparation easy - bread and waffles straight out of the freezer, and recently ham. I had frozen individual portions of ham for him for snacks etc and he insists on eating it frozen. Oh well...I guess there's worse things.
He's really speaking so well now. He comes up with 5- & 6-word sentences now. Learning how to use me/my/I/you/your etc. His latest thing is he'll tell you what something is NOT. "It's not xxx, it's xxx" for example, he was having his apples for snack at daycare and he says to me "It's not pear" or he'll say "It's not blue, it's red" If he doesn't want to put on his hat or mittens he'll say "I want cold hands" or "I want a cold head", so I end up having to negotiate with him to get him to wear his hat. It's really amazing to see him learning abstract concepts and how to answer more abstract questions. I've been trying to teach him the difference between a violin and a guitar, because there's a busker in the subway on the way to daycare who plays a violin, and he always calls it a guitar. I've been telling him violins are little and guitars are big, and you play a violin with a stick called a bow. Tonight I was reading a story and there was a picture of a girl playing a violin. He named it correctly, so I asked him "how do you know it's a violin" and he said "play with a bow" so I said, "That's right - you play a violin with a bow...and what do you play a guitar with?" He says "a pick"
Still sleeping just great. No signs of trying to get out of his crib. We've been debating on when to switch him to a mattress though, but there's no big rush. It's kind of nice that he's contained at this point if he wakes up in the night.
Starting to get a little devious too. last night, as I was getting ready to read him stories before bed, he was sitting on my lap, kissed Daddy good night. All of a sudden, he says "Kiss the floor...want to kiss the floor" so I let him get down, he gets down on his hands and knees to 'kiss the floor' and all of a sudden says "Crawl away....I'm crawling away" and heads out of the room. Hugo and I were killing ourselves laughing.
He's got his 2 year appt tomorrow with Dr. P. looking forward to seeing how tall he is & how much he weighs. He's still on the small side, but that's ok - I'm the one who has to carry him to and from work/daycare on the streetcar, so I'm not complaining!
