After a long absence....

Things have been pretty hectic this summer, so I apologize for not having updated the blog till now. Lots of changes over the summer.

In the middle of June, Christian's daycare (who are WONDERFUL by the way!) initiated full-on toilet training. Cold turkey in underwear for the day. he did great! with 3 accidents per day the first week, 1 accident the 2nd week and none the 3rd week. In July, he started staying dry all night in his pull-up, and once he was consistent with that, we put him in underwear at night too. I'm happy to report that except for the odd accident, he's fully toilet trained!! of course, I bought a HUGE box of diapers right before being given notice by daycare.
His talking has exploded! He's talking so well, complete sentences and says the funniest things. I've been writing them on the calendar, just so I don't forget. He's also starting to sing a lot more - songs he learns in daycare - unfortunately, like his mom, he can't carry a tune, but hopefully he'll improve. When I have a chance I'll upload some video of his singing.
In September, when he turned 2 1/2, he was moved up to the preschool room. The age range is 2.5 - about 4, so he's got a wide range age of kids to interact with. Within a couple of weeks we saw a huge impact on both his talking and his social development. Things had kind of plateaued for a while when he was in the toddler room, mostly, I think, because he was the oldest for a while and the younger kids just weren't talking much. Plus all the activities were geared for 18mo - 2.5.
He's developing really great manners (again, I have to give a lot of credit to daycare here). He's good about saying please and thank you. In the past week he's even started saying 'Thank You' without being prompted. Recently the preschool teachers must have been teaching him "May I" (why didn't I think of that??!!) - I was rather surprised to hear him ask me "May I have some more milk please?" one day.
He's about 35 inches now, maybe 35-1/2, and weighs about an ounce under 27lbs. So he's still on the small side, but I'm not complaining about that when I have to carry him to daycare and he doesn't grow out of his clothes too quickly.
That's about it in a nutshell. I'm posting some pictures below, so keep scrolling down...
Pictures from the Toddler class trip to Centre Island. I was shocked that all these toddlers (age 20 months - 28 months) all sat so well in the boat by themselves.
On our time off in July, we took Christian to Centre Island again. He loved going in the boat by himself, and he still talks about how he can go on the "Big Kids Rides" next time.
Riding the antique carousel. I didn't even know this was there till this year. Another hit, although his face doesn't show it. He was pretty tired by this point; this was the last ride before we headed home.
Sitting in the giant muskoka chair. He got a bit of a second wind here, but then we went for a long walk to the ferry and he fell asleep almost immediately.

This one was in mid-September, at the "Purple Playground" as he calls it.
On gorgeous Thanksgiving day. It was 32C in Toronto. A record temperature! A family pic, plus some other pics of Christian playing.

"Smile!" When we tell him to smile, this is what we get:
